Eric Hurteau

Éric Hurteau

A member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec since 1994, Eric Hurteau obtained his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivières

He has worked as a clinician, project manager and also as a manager in various sectors of the healthcare system in Northern Ontario and as a psychologist in CLSCs and hospitals in Quebec. He has also held various coordination, intervention and management positions in the field of rehabilitation of people on work leave, which has allowed him to develop his expertise in work psychology, management and invalidity issues.

As part of his practice, he accompanies people struggling with various problems, such as :

  • Anxiety and mood disorders (anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder)

  • Relational difficulties (separation/divorce, marital or family tensions, workplace difficulties and conflicts);

  • Mourning, illness (cancer, acute or chronic health problems);

  • Situations involving a work leave (recovery, rehabilitation, return-to-work planning, relapse prevention, relations with the employer, the insurer, the CNESST, etc.)

Approach and methods of intervention

He mainly uses the cognitive-behavioral approach, the schema-centered approach and the solution-centered approach in an interactive and imaginative style, imbued with tact and respect. He takes into consideration the person’s needs, the problems experienced and their impact on the individual, the objectives pursued and the strategies that have already been used to resolve the difficulties.

The approach aims to allow the person to develop a better understanding of his or her personal and/or relational dynamics, symptoms, issues inherent to the situation as well as past problem-solving attempts that have been unsuccessful in order to take them into account when identifying alternative solutions.
