Minor Surgery

The word “surgery” is often associated with major operations performed under general anesthesia by a large team. While this image is accurate for major (or general) surgeries, it is less appropriate for minor surgeries, such as those performed at Humani, your private medical clinic in Rosemère-Laval. Our professionals are trained to perform surgical procedures to treat various conditions (abscesses, cysts, skin lesions, ingrown toenails, etc.).

Minor surgery to treat a variety of conditions

These minor procedures, sometimes performed under local anesthesia, are intended to treat problems that are considered minor but nevertheless require treatment within a relatively short time frame. Such surgeries and the associated follow-up procedures are generally intended to treat or remove a wound, lesion, or growth. These surgical procedures can be performed directly in the medical clinic and generally require little preparation. In addition, the risk of complications associated with them is low.

Some procedures performed in the clinic

Dressing Changes:

Some wounds (especially post-surgical wounds) must be covered with a dressing to protect them and aid healing. To ensure safe handling, dressing changes should always be performed by a qualified nurse.

Abscess Drainage:

An abscess is a local accumulation of pus that can form on or under the skin. To heal, it is important to drain the pus by gently piercing the abscess.

Repair of Shallow Lacerations:

Some lacerations and cuts require minor surgery to bring the edges together and aid healing. This can be done with stitches or a dressing to hold the edges together, which is preferred when the cut is minor, especially in children.

Cyst Treatment:

When this small, closed swelling, which is usually benign, forms under the skin, the doctor can easily remove it. There are generally two options: piercing it to release any liquid or gas it may contain, or removing it completely.

Biopsy:

This procedure involves removing tissue for analysis. Skin and endometrial (inner lining of the uterus) biopsies are available at the clinic.

Removal of an Ingrown Toenail:

It is sometimes necessary to remove a nail that has grown into the skin, as this often causes pain and difficulty walking, as well as being a potential source of infection.

For minor, straightforward surgery

Depending on the nature of the problem (minor emergency, identification of the nature of a lesion, etc.), the surgical procedure can be performed during an emergency appointment (at the walk-in clinic) or scheduled following an initial consultation. In all cases, our team members will ensure that everything goes smoothly. They will adapt their approach to the patient's age and situation and, if necessary, use an anesthetic (topical or by injection). This should ensure that the procedure is simple and relatively painless!
