Infiltration Clinic
Regardless of their cause (arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendinitis, etc.), joint and inflammatory problems are often debilitating. The resulting pain can affect quality of life, and certain movements may lose their fluidity and range.
To address this, at Humani Private Medical Clinic in Rosemère, we offer cortisone infiltrations and viscosupplementation agents (Synvisc) to help relieve these conditions.

What is a cortisone infiltration and what is it used for?
Cortisone is a medication primarily used for its anti-inflammatory properties. It can be administered orally, topically, or through a direct injection at the site of inflammation. In the latter method, known as an infiltration, it is combined with an anesthetic agent.
These infiltrations are used to treat various musculoskeletal problems affecting different joints (hand and fingers, knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, spine, etc.). They also help reduce the pain associated with these conditions. Since the duration of the effects can vary, the procedure may need to be repeated, without exceeding four injections per year.
Why use viscosupplementation agents?
Synvisc, the viscosupplementation agent used at Humani, is an alternative to cortisone for treating knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. This viscous solution, injected directly into the joint capsule, acts similarly to synovial fluid: it lubricates the joint while absorbing shocks and reducing friction. As a result, the infiltration helps lessen knee pain and improves both the quality and range of movement.
The injection can be repeated once its effects wear off, typically after 6 to 12 months.
